Final Exam

My Transformative Photo
This was the photo that I took this year that transformed my view of photography.  It is a picture of the flag next to the office building of Mission San Jose High.  On that day, it was somewhat windy, so the flags were billowing all over.  When I took the photo, it captured the flags stock still, but you can see that it is moving.  This shooting experience furthered my interest in shooting scenes of a specific genre, nature, which most of my latest photos are about.

Shape and Form
The difference between shape and form is that form is three dimensional while shape is two dimensional.  Shape is clearly defined by lines, while form is not, since it is three dimensional.

Pattern and Repetition
Pattern is when a set of shapes or elements is repeated regularly, while repetition is when one object is repeated regularly.

Last Three Projects

I believe that my best project out of these three is my photostory project of Mission San Jose's Relay for Life event.  I believe that this was my best work because it captured the spirit of Relay for Life very well.  Relay for Life is an event where participants enjoy themselves and have fun, but it is also solemn too.  My photos captured both sides of Relay for Life, so I feel this is my best project out of these three.  This project changed me because I was able to get even closer to my photography subjects.  Sometimes, they did not even notice that I was taking photos of them from only a 1 or 2 feet away from them.  I learned to see differently by instead of being a participant and enjoying the event like everyone else, I watched the participants to capture their emotions, rather than the emotions of the event,  Therefore, I have began to see things in a more personal viewpoint.

Student Website Reviews

Period 1
Student: Michael Shen
Best Photo
I believe that this photo is Michael's best photo because it it perfectly uses leading lines and movement, and the swirling clouds create a perfect balance of light and shadows on the hill, creating a wonderful photo.

Period 2
Student: Ryen Teo
Best Photo
I believe that this is Ryen's best photo because it shows depth of field perfectly, and the close up shot of his dog enhances its features and liveliness.

Period 3
Student: Hugh Smith
Best Photo
I believe that this is Hugh's best photo because its use of leading lines and simplicity perfectly  conveys the feeling of solitude that these lanterns represent.

Period 4
Student: Alyssa Zhao
Best Photo
I believe that this is Alyssa's best photo because the contrast of colors bring out the outline of the buildings wonderfully,

Finals Project Request

For my finals project I would like to shoot photos of trees.  Specifically, I would like to  take photos of trees set up in their natural landscape, surrounded by natural lighting, with their features augmented by rules of photography such as depth of field and rule of thirds.  I will take close up shots and landscape shots.  The trees that I will focus on are flowering and deciduous trees.
Here are the examples:
